Water Reuse: Toilet to Tap Readies Itself For the Limelight

The idea of creating water from human excrement and wastewater is nothing new. The idea certainly has merit for a number of reasons including water scarcity and drought. But will consumers want to drink water that has been culled from human waste?

Commonly called "toilet to tap" the practice, is also known as "direct potable reuse" or "reclaimed" or "recycled water," and is not new. The city of Windhoek, Namibia, population 250,000, famously has been using it since 1968.
