Water, being a natural substance often comes into contact with other natural substances which, when conditions are right, greatly affect the purity of water. Algae is one of those naturally occurring substances and on occasion, algae blooms have an impact on a diversity of bodies of water, such as the ocean, rivers and lakes. But algae blooms can and do affect reservoirs holding community drinking water, as we've seen from the Lake Erie bloom.
