paid
hundreds
of
millions
of
dollars
to
settle
legal
claims
that
it
had
poisoned
the
California
Mojave
Desert
community
of
Hinkley
by
dumping
industrial
waste
into
the
ground.
They
were
ordered
to
clean
up
the
hexavalent
chromium,
also
known
as
chrom-6,
and
were
ordered
to
provide
either
bottled
water,
and/or
home
water
treatment
systems
to
the
remaining
residents
of
this
small
town.
The
story
became
a
movie,
Erin
Brockovich.
After
the
film
ran
its
course
and
made
millions
for
Julia
Roberts,
the
story
died
down
for
most
everyone
