Nearly 20 years ago, Pacific Gas and Electric (PGand#38;E) paid hundreds of millions of dollars to settle legal claims that it had poisoned the California Mojave Desert community of Hinkley by dumping industrial waste into the ground. They were ordered to clean up the hexavalent chromium, also known as chrom-6, and were ordered to provide either bottled water, and/or home water treatment systems to the remaining residents of this small town.
